Today is a fresh new start. Day 1 at ACJC.

I arrived at the school by 7.10am and saw Tania and Yen Nee waiting outside the school for Peiyu. Later the three of us saw Crystal just outside the school gate and Crystal and I saw Edwin at the bleachers beside the running track when we went in later. While everybody else were waiting for their friends, I walked alone up to the Hall where chairs were arranged both on stage and on the ground. I joined Abraham and some other 4o1ers at some seats at the front.

Once all were settled down it was time for the usual morning ritual: singing of the National Anthem, the school anthem and reciting the pledge. After the Principal's speech and a prayer, there were some more talks by the teachers of the school with a recess break in between.

Then the actual orientation began. The theme for the ACJC Orientation 2005 was "Mosaic: Pieces of the AC Passion" and the Orientation Group (OG) names were all derived from a fictional mythological story. OG clusters were referred to as Cavalons, OGs as Esprits, OG leaders as Mehvs and us J1s as Tiripscans. The Cavalon I was in was Terazul and the Esprit Elekan.

Our 'base' was the Badminton Hall, located at the sports complex. After collecting an orientation booklet, we moved out onto the stands beside the swimming pool (since they couldn't get the air-con in the badminton hall to work) where our Cavalon's leader taught us the Terazul cheer. After some ice-breaking games we went for lunch, a rally (i.e. cheering session where the 5 Cavalons compete to see who can cheer the best) and then to the all important subject registration. I registered for double Maths and double Sciences. The process was quick, but due to someone in Elekan wanting to appeal to take up Higher Chinese we had a very long delay where we rotted in The Hub (venue of the subject registration).

When we finally went back to our base we were taught one of the dances that we would be doing sometime during the one-week-long orientation. We rehearsed the dance with the song "Blame It On The Boogie" (the other song was "Superstar" by Jamelia), after which majority of the Esprit elected to go play some of the games on the field, i.e. dirty games. Surprisingly I was so lucky only my feet were dirty (since we walked onto the pitch barefooted). After a bit of wash-up the whole J1 cohort had another cheering competition before we were dismissed.

Verdict: Well, I think ACJC is all right for now. My impression of ACJC is not really 'up there' currently, but maybe it just takes time. I'm just eager to join ACSian Theatre (I only realised now that 'ACSian' is pronounced like 'action' and not 'A-C-Sian') and do my favourite theatre stuff again.
