Normal stuff's up today.

Wednesday, July 30, 2003

Today afternoon, during the ELDDS weekly session, Ms Ong announced to us that we had received a Bronze for the SYF Drama Central Judging. While it is a little disappointing, we were not the worst. There were schools who got Gold at the last SYF and got a COP (Certificate of Participation) at this SYF. Besides, the judges were not the usual ones who judge the SYF Drama, but retired school principals, so we did not know what their criteria was (or if they even knew how to judge a play in the first place).

Then it was the election of the new ELDDS main committee. I was nominated as the new chairman of ELDDS. Great - another "chairman" in 3/1 (Quan Ming is the chairman of our class, Kegan is the chairman of the Table Tennis Club, and Samuel is the new chairman of SJAB). Basically, from now on the ELDDS is going through a major revamp. We will emerge as champions soon. ELDDS - SYF champions forever!

Australian Maths Competition this afternoon was a killer. Okay, maybe not the first two sections, but section 3 was out to kill. It's definitely for more advanced students. I'll be surprised if anybody can get full marks for this paper.

Then, the Protem committee made a visit to Mr. Lam's office to get his opinions about our proposed TDC programme. It wasn't exactly scary, but the thought of talking to the vice-principal definitely unnerved some. Swell, I've even talked to the principal before.

Everything is upside down today. Mostly about the tests. Firstly, I got 12 out of 15 for the Elective Geography test, a first for me. It's actually thanks to the bonus question, which was 2 marks. Secondly, I got 11 out of 20 for Physics, a new low for me. Hey, Mr. Pandian's tests are out to kill. Thirdly, I got full marks (25 marks) for Chemistry. My eyes popped out like they were on springs.

My nose runs and my feet smells. A clear sign that everything is upside down. (Okay, I do not have a running nose now, but my feet definitely smell.)

Sunday. You know what it means.

Today we had our first Protem meeting. "We" refers to those in the Protem Committee of the Student Council.

We discussed about the Council monthly meeting, the Teacher's Day Celebrations 2003, and some school matters of much concern, one of which was about the issue of putting the uniform back on immediately after PE lessons.

We ended the meeting at 4.55 p.m. Five minutes later, the SYF In The Park II at the Botanic Gardens would begin, and our school's Dance Society was performing. Not wanting to squeeze into one taxi with the rest, I decided to take the MRT, then bus service 174.

Unfortunately, the whole trip took 1 hour. By the time I reached the venue, I heard the sentence, "Thanks for coming!" Darn, I missed it!

I still got to have a ride on the MRT, though.

Tests, tests, tests...

Thursday, July 24, 2003

Rather normal day today.

The preliminary round for the Inter-class Debate Championship was held this afternoon. Our class was against 3/2, the Opposition, and our motion was "This House believes that private lives of public figures should remain private". Results? We won by half a mark.

For the afternoon, I helped out in the Racial Harmony Games for the day. I was helping out for the Rollin' Good Times game, where one uses a wooden stick to roll a wheel. It was quite fun; I learned it in a few minutes.

After the game, I helped a few fellow Councillors to retrieve a sepak tekraw ball, to be used for tomorrow's sepak tekraw game (also part of the Racial Harmony Games). A male Councillor kicked the ball so hard it reached the top of the Foyer. Ladders and poles were brought in to help get back the ball. Jane and I went to the AVA Room 2, the closest room to the Foyer roof, and gave directions to Kegan and Shao Ming on getting back the ball. We succeeded after one hour.

We didn't feel frustrated in the end. In fact, we thought it would make a good exercise for a Councillor camp.

Nothing much today. Discussed a little bit more about the debate with Miss Ang.

Sunday. You know what this means.

CIP in the morning. CIP, for the information of the clueless, stands for Community Involvement Programme. For Secondary 3s, we have to perform gardening activities at Kent Ridge Park, our school's adopted park. Basically we were removing weeds and pruning the plants. Our turn was a short one, because another class was to do the same stuff later in the morning. For the rest of the time since arriving back at school, the debate team discussed about the debate. The foundation's laid; all we needed to do was to research and write out our speech.

Horror of horrors! A boy (my mother said he might have been Primary 6) tried to jump off the flat I was living in (from 6th storey). I saw it from my bedroom, which was on the 7th storey. About 5 people were pulling him back; he had gone over the railing of the corridor and was standing on the ledge. I didn't count the time, but a while later the people pulled him back and brought him into his house. After some time, some people from the SCDF brought him away, maybe to see a psychiatrist - or is it a psychologist? I can't tell the difference.

Goes to show how real reality can be.

Friday, July 18, 2003

A normal day for me. After school, what was supposed to be a meeting with Miss Ang to discuss the debate ended as a leisurely afternoon chat where we talked about almost everything under the sun.

Today is our school's competition day for the SYF Central Judging for Drama. We left our classes after the first Temperature Checking Session to assemble in the Reading Room. After changing into our costumes (excluding the sarongs for the guys) and putting on makeup, we did two runs before having lunch at 10.30 am (brunch for some people perhaps). After lunch it was touch-up and some photo-taking before heading to the Drama Centre at The Chinese High School.

The stage was extremely dark when all lights are off. I have to feel my way around (accidentally knocking into some people in the process), but all in all it was pretty fine, even with my sore throat. I went home after changing out of my costumes to wash my hair and face.

WE WON! WE WON THE UPPER SECONDARY MUSICAL COMPETITION!

Basically, we just went up there and did our thing. When the results were announced, 3/1 and 3/3 were left vying for first and second. Then when the announcer said, "2nd place - 3/3", our class exploded. XL was practically jumping. We took several class photos after Assembly. I couldn't stay long, though; I had ELDDS.

A rehearsal for tomorrow's Musical Competition finals was held this afternoon. I just hope most things go smoothly tomorrow.

Monday, July 14, 2003

We are in! We are in the finals for the Musical Competition!

Sunday, July 13, 2003

Sunday. Went to Peiyu's house for a rehersal for our musical. The preliminary round's tomorrow. It's all right, basically.

Saturday, July 12, 2003

ELDDS rehersal in the morning. Musical rehersal in the afternoon. We've got the basic performance out, so next will be the finetuning.

Friday, July 11, 2003

Quite a normal day for me.

Thursday, July 10, 2003

Not much happening today.

Wednesday, July 09, 2003

During Assembly, the Protem Committee of the Student Council was revealed, and I'm one of the fourteen in the committee. That's pressure.

After school, there was the O Level Chinese Oral Examination. I requested to be the first to be tested, since I had ELDDS rehersal later. The passage wasn't difficult, the news topic was okay, but it was the conversation topic which stumped me - "What would qualify as secrets?"

For ELDDS, we moved to the stage in the Hall to reherse. It was more difficult in a sense, because we had to project our voices, but it was good in the sense that we had more space to move about.

Basically that's all for today.

Nothing special up today. And Ladan is dead...sob...

07.07.03

Today is the activation date of the Singnet Broadband service my parents signed up for. After a quick installation, I was breezing through the Internet. What's more, it means I can use the Internet all day without costing more! (Okay, maybe the electricity bills will cost more...)

Today afternoon, I went to Peiyu's house to settle some things about the Inter-Class English Musical Competition. The date for the preliminary round has been pushed back to 14 July, which gives us one more weekend to rehearse. We have a lot of things to settle.

When I boarded the LRT at Choa Chu Kang, I was delighted to see Quan Ming on it as well. It means I'm not the only one late. We took the LRT to Bukit Panjang where we waited for a few more girls and Peiyu to lead us to her house.

The first thing the girls did was to practise the dance. The time period of our musical was set in the 1800s, so we had to learn the waltz - do you call that the waltz? Anyway, the girls learnt pretty fast, and I caught up a while later, even though I wasn't acting in the musical. I should be helping Xianglong and Peiyu to direct.

At the end of the day, we settled on the props and the script, which means I will have to write out a 2nd draft. We've also learned the basic form of the dance. All we need to do now is to teach Abraham the dance, and start rehersing. That will continue on Tuesday during our English lessons (Miss Ang has kindly given us time during her lessons to reherse).

O Level Listening Comprehension in the morning. I reached school early in the morning to find that I had forgotten to bring my thermometer. Luckily my dad brought it in time. The test was rather easy. Unfortunately, I think I might have gotten a question wrong.

Later it was ELDDS rehersal. A few students were late because they went to Ginza Plaza to have breakfast. Nevertheless, we had one of the best rehersals we've ever had.

In the afternoon, I returned to school to be MC for the Prize Presentation Ceremony of the National Clean and Green Camp 2003. In the end, Mr. Chia (the overall in charge of the camp) became the MC of the event, and I was nearby helping to give out the prizes. Sigh...

In the afternoon, I went to Campus 2 to get ready for the Secondary 1 Councillor Election Interview. I was, of course, the interviewer, along with two others in one room. We only had 4 interviewees. Each were different in their own way. Unfortunately, I don't like interviews as the mood is so stiff. Wouldn't it be better if we had informal interviews where we lighten the mood and treat the interview like a normal conversation and the interviewee as a friend?

For PE today, I tried a new sport called pickle ball. There was a bat which looked like a table tennis bat and a white plastic hollow ball the size of a tennis ball which had holes in it. The basic objective was to block the ball. It was fun.

ELDDS rehersal was on this afternoon. We had our first full-dress rehersal in weeks. Not bad.

Today there were fried worms. Too bad I didn't eat it; I was busy. Basically, a normal day for me. Ciao.
